Part of the old Landhaus in the central Herrengasse, the Palais Niederösterreich is an important monument of Austrian history in the heart of Vienna, and a unique venue for the Global Security Forum. It was originally home to the political representatives of Austrian upper class, knights, prelates and towns. The Lower Austrian Parliament then proceeded to acquire the Landhaus in 1513 to hold assemblies in Vienna.

The plenary sessions of the Global Security Forum will be hosted in the Landhaussaal the main conference hall of the Palais. With its dazzling frescoed vault, it was erected in the second building period in the middle of the 16th century. The Landhaussaal was built in renaissance style and decorated in the baroque period with precious frescos by the Italian painter Antonio Beduzzi. It has a tradition of use as the official venue for important historical gatherings. The proclamation of the First Republic of Austria occurred in the Landhaussaal in 1918, as well as the large-scale federal conference of 1945 where Renner¹s governmentwas recognized, and the Second Republic was proclaimed.
